Haus Gawaling is located in the village of Mathon at the foot of the Piz Beverin and launches a new residency programme for cultural workers organised by Koondhor and Son. The SITE VISIT presents a concert by US rapper, artist and activist Mykki Blanco and an exhibition by artist Maya Hottarek. Gawaling House is a former hostel and later hosted Tibetan gatherings, and in a subsequent transition to a younger generation, the aim is for the sisters' house to remain a place for community encounters that values the principles of collective care. On the occasion of the SITE VISIT, we address how rural areas became internationally networked, thereby overcoming rifts between town and country.

About SITE VISIT: The new series of excursions and discussions extends NEXPO's research on living together in Switzerland in the 21st century. Rapid social change not only brings technological progress, but also forces us to reflect on our built social environment. SITE VISIT is an attempt at a playful re-examination of spaces. We take the Gawaling House as an occasion to reflect on our public life in the future.

About the NEXPO: The ten largest cities of Switzerland have initiated a new national exhibition called NEXPO – the new Expo. It is new because it will take unprecedented shape: It will be sustainable, future oriented and decentralized, taking place all over Switzerland. There will be no defined, fenced-in location. It will interconnect cultural initiatives throughout Switzerland – in all linguistic regions, in cities, agglomerations, and rural areas. It will build bridges between centre and periphery, it will establish a Swiss-wide network and it will create new places to meet and gather.
